Despite the recent public health restrictions, we have been able to accomplish some significant goals.
A new website, courtesy of Ciniki, is now live. Here you'll find all the latest news, a virtual tour, and our exclusive Members Portal. The portal serves as a hub for all current members; you'll find copies of meeting minutes, financial records, news of upcoming events, chances to volunteer and most importantly have access to our extensive museum database.
Another significant achievement, our new Accession Records were created using software created by our website provider, Ciniki.com. We have now catalogued about 400 items including most of the equipment and type cases in the museum. We've started cataloguing some of the equipment and type in the Member Workshop located in the Printery's basement and will be continuing this project over the next few months. The records are permanently stored as a searchable data base in the "Members Only" section of our website. Members may even download a pdf file of their search results.
What else have we been up to? Director Emeritus John Hunt has continued his dedication to maintaining our presses, while Director Kevin Martin has put a lot of hours into getting our Linotype working again.
We have also been working on renovating the Member Workshop areas to create spaces where we will teach workshops and allow members to come in to work on their own printmaking projects using our equipment and supplies. With that in mind, we are planning to create a tiered membership system with a slightly higher fee for those who would be using the workshop on a more frequent basis for their own work.
We hope to start a series of educational Workshops beginning Fall 2023. All members would receive a discount for workshops or classes they wish to attend.
We thank you and hope you will continue your support of the Mackenzie Printery & Newspaper Museum.
