A WORKING PRINTING MUSEUM

Located in Queenston

The Mackenzie Printery and Newspaper Museum is located at 1 Queenston St.,
Queenston, Ontario, Canada in the former home of William Lyon Mackenzie. In 1824 William Lyon Mackenzie started an independent newspaper, The Colonial Advocate in this building. He was known as a political firebrand, hoping to educate citizens and fight what he considered a corrupt political system.

In 1950, the Queenston home became a historic museum site. The property is owned by the Niagara Parks Commission which hires staff to conduct tours in the summer months. In 1990, a joint venture was established with a volunteer, non-profit Printery Committee to ensure the preservation of the printing equipment.
